We wish you happy Diwali with Ayurveda health tips!

This week the Hindus celebrate the Diwali, also know as the “festival of lights”. Let´s take a look at what this Hindu New Year celebration has in common with the Ayurvedic lifestyle, and how you can improve your own life by following a few simple tips!

What is Diwali?

This five day festival starts on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna of the Hindu calendar, and ends on the second lunar day of Shukla paksha. Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama to his Kingdom after defeating Ravana, and in essence reflects the victory of good over evil.

Indian families celebrate Diwali by cleaning and decorating the house, purifying themselves and wearing new clothes, lighting lamps, setting off fireworks, eating sweets and snacks and enjoying time with their family and friends. It is the New Year for Hindus.

Diwali and Ayurveda

This wonderful celebration has a lot in common with the Ayurvedic philosophy. Most of the ancient Ayurvedic texts ultimately urge us to cleanse not only the physical or external part of the human body, but also our inner being, the subtle, and the subconscious.

Today´s society creates a stressful environment for us, and at times fills us with anxiety, worry and negatives thoughts. So during this Diwali we encourage everyone to slow down, to enjoy life, to practice meditation, yoga, mantra chanting, to feel thankful and happy with our lives, to decorate our houses with lights, but also to decorate and purify our inner light, because our outside is just a reflection of our inside. So sure let´s work on our external beauty, but never forget about our inside.

We are not only a physical body, we are also what we eat, what we drink, what we think, what we say, what we do, what we love…we are many many things…and we should care about all of them.
