A Spa Manager is in a very important position. There are many demands on you as a person, both from the staff that you are leading, the guests that you are serving and from the corporate office above.

There are a number of qualities that characterize a good manager, but in particular, you will need a paradoxical mixture of personal humility and professional will. One of the most important skills is to make certain that the operations function as efficiently when you are there as when you are not. In other words, your goal is to “do” as little as possible. However, this does not mean that you are to do nothing. You are to be a strategist, a thinker and a do-er. You are to be ambitious and result oriented. Yet you must remain very human, be approachable, and always prioritize the best interests of your staff and of your guests, and always bear your Company Values in mind.

The strategies and company values are your base; everything that you do should spring out from these. You personify those strategies and company values; you will always walk your talk and work with people in all that you do. As Emerson says:

That which we persist in doing becomes easier – not that the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased.”
