Maybe you have tried a Tibetan Singing bowl massage and just loved it, and are now thinking of buying a few bowls and start studying or practicing yourself. Or maybe you are generally interested in sound massage and sound healing and want to experiment with Singing bowls. In any case it can be tricky to know which bowls to buy, as there are so many different varieties available.
COMPOSITION OF THE SINGING BOWL
Today the Tibetan singing bowls, or also called Himalayan singing bowls, are produced either industrially (using moulds) or hand-made (in Tibet, Nepal or India).Their composition can vary and they include from three to twelve different types of metals, although the most commercial ones are usually made out of only three metals (copper, iron and bronze). Also other varieties of singing bowls exist, such as those made of crystal or quartz, that produce distinct sounds and vibrations.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SINGING BOWLS: WHICH ONE FITS ME BEST?
When choosing a singing bowl, it is important that you take your time to listen to its sound, feel its vibrations, weight, touch, the duration and intensity of the wave, etc., in order to familiarize yourself with it and make your selection with confidence. The larger singing bowls have a stronger sound and lower vibrations, while smaller bowls are characterized by a high-pitched sound and more intense vibrations. The human body responds differently to higher and lower octaves, and it´s a good idea to experiment the sounds before making the final decision.
Normally, the smaller singing bowls are used during meditation sessions and also for stabilizing the upper chakras Om, Ah and Hum, while larger bowls are used for physical and therapeutic purposes. Moreover, when using several singing bowls during the same session, you have to take into consideration the harmony between them and the influence they have over each other.
It is also good to take into consideration that as the sound of the singing bowl varies according to temperature, the room dimensions, humidity, the manner in which the bowl is tapped and the calorific energy and vibration transmitted by the therapist as well as the recipient, it is not realistic to expect that the singing bowl always will sound the same.
Also keep in mind that if you do not control the pressure and velocity, the vibration of the bowl will affect the beater, producing an unpleasant and distorsioned sound. Therefore, it is crucial to know the characteristics of the singing bowl, so that you can anticipate the type of sound and vibration it will produce.
As you can see there are many factors to take into consideration when purchasing a singing bowl. It will always be easier to choose if you have some basic knowledge about them and know what you want to use them for. It is also important that you have the sufficient time to try them out and feel their vibrations before making a decision.
