Even though during the last weeks we have lived under a grey sky due to the continuous raining in our region, the signs of spring have started popping up through the earth. From a Chinese medicine standpoint, spring begins to wake up right after Chinese New Year, building up Yang quietly until it gathers enough force to burst through visibly in nature. With Yang energies picking up momentum, spring is a time of expansion, enthusiasm, rapid growth, and transformation.
Spring is also a good time to revise our New Year Resolutions and take another look at our possibly “failed” January resolutions and start again. All of us at Massage Around the World have revised our own Wellness Resolution, and we decided to share a list to tune into spring and use the enthusiastic force around you to your advantage.
RENEW YOUR ENERGY. This is the season of re-birth. Take a deep look at where you are and feel what you no longer need in your life, what no longer serves you. Creativity is the word for Spring, as are new beginnings, and we are naturally creative beings.
CLEANSE YOUR ORGANISM. Try to avoid toxic food and excesses. Protect your liver. Take a break from alcohol and avoid chemical exposures wherever possible. For example introduce: juice cleanse, a detox diet, two weeks off sugar and caffeine, and if you are up for it, quit smoking.
START EXERCISING OR REVIVE YOUR HABIT. Think of some sport or exercise that really attracts you. Tone and stretch out; awaken your body. Most people experience a great increase in their energy levels which grows as they exercise regularly.
ENJOY FRESH SEASONAL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. Spring greens are also wonderful; look for miner’s lettuce, chickweed, some cleavers and dandelion greens, and add some of these in your salad. Fresh organic spinach is tasty in salads with some olive oil, lemon or balsamic vinegar. Fruits in this season can include oranges and lemons, strawberries, and avocado.
PROTECT YOUR SKIN. Coming out of the winter months and into (hopefully) sunnier weather, remember to use sun protection in order to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Sunscreens are great, but they aren’t enough. Topical antioxidants like Vitamin C and ferulic acid can help to protect against photodamage, and also have anti-aging benefits.
SNACK SMART. When you need a snack and want to eat healthy, reach for energy-boosting almonds. They are great for helping you stay energized because they are loaded with potassium and iron. Also try other energy-boosting snacks such as grapes, peaches or sunflower seeds.
DRINK WATER. Drinking enough pure water every day is important for supporting your body’s functions, curbing cravings and preventing dry, irritated skin. It’s important to drink water that’s been filtered or that comes from a natural source.
